What we can teach you!

We at Newport mma like to think that this is what a gym should be. We welcome anyone who wishes to either learn self defence, how to fight or want to get super fit.

Below is a taster of what we teach but we also cover taekwondo and extreme fitness.

brazilian ju jitsu
1. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art which mainly focus's on grappling and fighting on the ground. It makes use of  body leverage and correct technique to gain dominant control when on the ground with an oppenent. You learn better positions for striking an opponent or techniques which will put them into submission holds.

There are numerous benefits of studying, practising and becoming proficient  in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Apart from the rigorous workout you get, you also gain an immense sense of pride and achievement followed by a feeling of confidence and power.  It teaches you how to use your strength and along with the technique, the ability to overcome individuals of greater size and strength. Great for self defence!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu basically means "The Gentle Art". It can enable you to avoid dangerous encounters and provides you with the skills to escape and evade potential threats without throwing punches.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students very often find themselves with a new sense of pride, purpose and determination.

Because of it's effectivness in "true fighting situations" it is one of the back bone techniques used by proffesional Mixed Martial Artist's.

muay thai
2. Muay Thai

Muay Thai  is a combat sport from the muay martial arts of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on foot is known as "the art of eight limbs" because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fight very efficient.

kung fu
3. kung fu

Almost all of the other Asian martial arts have been derived from or were greatly influenced by Chinese Kung Fu.  Thus, Kung Fu can be said to be the “mother system” of almost all the martial arts.  Kung Fu is an all encompassing martial art whereas most other forms are narrower in scope.  Japanese Karate Do deals mainly with punching, blocking, and kicking.  Japanese Judo deals mainly with throws and joint-locks.  Korean Tae Kwon Do deals mainly with empty hand and kick techniques.  Chinese Kung Fu has empty hands, kicks, blocks, throws, joint-locks, weapon techniques, and healing skills.  Kung Fu truly covers a much broader scope than any other martial art.

3. Ladies street self defence

Self defense and self protection are an important priority for women.

The most common crime to happen to a woman is rape, but it is more about a feeling of dominance from one person over another rather than actual sex. According to statistics, the majority of rapes are perpetrated by men who women know. Assault on women is also a common crime because assailants assume women will be more passive and not fight back; this has to do with stereotypes of women.

The best way for women to fight back against crime is to prevent it from happening by avoiding being alone or being in badly lit areas.

However, getting into such situations is sometimes inevitable. In the event that rape prevention fails—such as by avoiding problem areas or making sure a woman is never alone—the best chance for survival is to fight back. Fighting back is not just necessary, but it is a moral right because protecting one’s self is paramount.

Here you will learn various techniques and tactics that could save you from something like this happening .
